Don't forget that the right to self defend is a right that we carry, not only as citizens of the USA, but as human beings. Granted, it is our instinct to fight back when our threshold is crossed, but many people let things go too far before they act. I'm not talking about just a physical confrontation in a parking lot or bar scene, I'm talking about the long term situations that perpetually get worse, such as domesitc violence, stalking, and bullying, just to name a few. So when is the right time to act? Well, I believe that the moment you recognize something is not right, that you're not being treated properly, you should put your foot down and direct, with confidence and sincerity (not ask), the aggressor to stop. Although you may believe this response may create a harsher confrontation, if done soon enough, it displays a level of confidence and willingness to fight back that more than likely will deter the aggressor from further harassment. This also will draw the line in the sand that will display your boundary. If the aggressor persists, then if you are able, get help from others. Don't try to fight force with force in a situation where help is available. If you are by yourself, and the situation escalates to violence, then by all means FIGHT LIKE HELL! Rember one key point, ANYTHING can be used as a weapon. Your subconcious is primative fighting machine, and you ARE capable of defending yourself! One really great resource I've found on the web is Marc MacYoung's website -- www.nononsenseselfdefense.com I do not know Marc, but really like his approach and advice on self defense. Please visit his site to learn more. I HIGHLY reccommend it. |
